Mission Trip Information

“ The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who mourn; to grant to those who mourn in Zion – to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness the planting of the Lord, that he may be gloried.” Isaiah 61: 1-3

414 Mission Trip to Africa

When:  June 2-17, 2012                   Where:  Kampala and Hoima, Uganda                    Cost:  $3,500

Locations

Gateway Mercy Ministries (GMM):  located in the slums of Kampala, GMM currently hosts 65 orphaned and vulnerable children.  With a limited budget, its directors tirelessly work to provide for the children’s daily needs, to include food, housing, and education.  For three days, the team will have the opportunity to serve everyone at GMM by conducting a half-day Vacation Bible School, facilitating training programs, conducting games, one-on-one mentoring with the children, doing cleanup projects on-site, and teaching and ministering to the staff.

Nabagessera Home (Kampala): home of Prossy Nabagesera, a single mother of three children, ages 2 to 12.  Despite the challenges of raising her own children, Prossy welcomed six orphaned children from Kampala.  She is currently providing a secure, loving environment, and caring for all nine children; while also making every effort to ensure their success in school.   Promise International is the sole source of academic support for the Nabagessera Home, paying for the children’s educations.  During this trip, those interested will be helping with maintenance on the home, as an alternative to any of the days at GMM , will be  painting, replacing windows, and other basic repairs for Prossy.

Bweya Children’s Home (Kampala):  home to 65 children, ages 1 to 18.  The missions team will be spending three days at Bweya conducting a half day Vacation Bible School, supporting training programs, coordinating games, contributing to construction and cleanup projects around the home, and spending quality time with the children.  They are blessed with much land, so our plan is to teach them some team sports–baseball and soccer!

Kihonge Community Development Centre (Hoima):  the original nursery and primary school (grades 1–7) now provides a sound education to more than 250 children.  The team will duplicate their 3 day schedules from GMM and Bweya, as well as participate in projects around the Centre, and invest time with the local community.

Adventure Day

Our trip will also include a day of adventure for those on the team as we’ll participate in a variety of sightseeing activities and cultural experiences, to include travel to the mouth of the Nile River and visiting the Ndere Cultural Centre in Kampala.
