The Promise International Children’s Development Centre in Uganda

$40,000 needed by the end of February… please read and consider joining us as we seek to acquire this land.

This is a dual purpose project.  It is to be the headquarters of Promise International in Uganda; and it is to provide a home for the children and core staff of Gateway Mercy Ministries.  This facility will be the center of vocational and leadership training for all children served by Promise International.

Promise International has developed a five phase plan to complete the Development Centre:

Phase I – Acquire Land

A native Ugandan family has donated 1.5 acres of land for the Centre, on the outskirts of a highly desirable area known as Entebbe.  This neighborhood is cleaner and far less congested than the inner city of Kampala, while at the same time being convenient to the local markets.  It has a good road running along the southern end of the property; and an unpaved but usable road running along the eastern side.  While this 1.5 acres is a good start, we realize that to provide residences, school buildings, playground and gardens would require even more land.  So, Phase I is to purchase an additional 2 acres adjacent to the donated land.

Today, Promise International has negotiated the purchase of these desired 2 acres at the current market rate of $80,000; however this agreement for the sale price is good only through February 2011.  While we have $40,000 on hand available for the purchase of the first of these two acres, we need your help to provide the remaining $40,000 for the second acre, before the February deadline.  It is critical to purchase the land before the end of February to avoid the inevitable price increase.

Phase II – Water Well

Our current cost estimate for drilling the well, is between $30,000 & $40,000.   We need your help to fully fund this project and properly supply our children with clean water.

In Phase III -  Build the Initial Structures

We will build the initial structures and establish the farm that will enable our children quickly to move onto this property and out of the unfavorable conditions of a congested swamp area in which they currently reside.  Materials for this phase of construction are estimated to cost between $130,000 & $140,000.  We need you help to provide for these materials.

We are hoping to erect these early structures with volunteer help.  We are praying for strong men and boys from the United States to make mission trips to Uganda; and for strong boys from our Kihonge and Nateete facilities to join in constructing these buildings.  For those who embark on such a mission trip, we pray their experiences will be life changing.  For our young Ugandan students we hope to provide yet another layer of vocational training.

Phase IV – Permanent Structures

We will then construct the permanent structures that will have sturdy foundations and enlarged plumbing systems to properly house the children of Gateway Mercy Ministries,.  As we move children out of the dormitory buildings created in our initial build from Phase III, the former dormitory structures will be used as Classrooms or dismantled to build the Fences or other needed Out Buildings such as Barns and Storage Buildings.  Therefore, nothing will be wasted!

Phase V – Enlarging the School

We hope to have several vocational classrooms, including a computer lab and a wood shop, among others.  All told, this project will cost $1.5 million dollars.  We need your help to build this facility and to properly equip it to fulfill its purpose of providing care for the children of Promise International.

The Promise International Children’s Development Centre will be the center whereby children from all of our Facilities are equipped with vocational skills to enter into their adult lives able to function and prosper within their African environment.  These life skills infused with the practical application of the Gospel of Jesus Christ will prepare our children to succeed within their communities.  Promise International hopes to build these children into leaders who will “speak the Truth in Love.”  Leaders who will look after the best interest of others…”loving their neighbor as themselves.”
